TutorPro’s Philosophy

Founder Dan Eiblum

Our philosophy is that all students are capable of doing well in school. No educator should give up on a student. Students need encouragement and mental support from their parents, teachers, and fellow students as they progress in school. We also believe that much should be expected from children. It is the shared responsibility of the student, the tutor and/or teacher, and the parent to improve the student’s grades. Doing homework everyday is essential to the student’s progress and is sometimes more important than the tutoring session itself.

Our Socratic Approach

Our tutors very often use a Socratic approach. Tutors involve the student by asking questions, leading the student to the answer, rather than just lecturing (and in the process losing the student). Considering the concentration difficulties many students experience today in the classroom and at home, we find that it is very useful to use the Socratic Approach with many students. This engaging and interactive method often works best especially during times when the student may be very tired from extracurricular activities, a long day at school, etc.

Meet our New York City Director, Kim Karim

Kim Karim has taught for ten years in the New York City public school system and has been a private tutor for the last four helping students in grades 6-11 in all subjects, including preparation for Regents exams. She has a B. S. in Biology from Tulane University and a M.S. in Biology and General Science Education from NYU.

Kim’s Philosophy of Education

I believe that every child is unique and has the ability to reach their full academic potential in a safe and secure environment, where they are allowed to question and share ideas. Working one-on-one allows students to have that specialized attention to understand concepts that might not have been understood in the classroom or to problem-solve using critical thinking skills, and take a lesson to a higher level.  A great education is the most important gift you can give to a child, and to be an integral part of it, as a teacher or tutor, is a true privilege.”
